A few months ago, we welcomed a new face on our team and today we’d like to introduce him to you. Get to know our new general manager, Jack Parkinson, who comes to us from Riverwind Casino in Norman, OK.
To begin, can you tell us a little bit about your role here at WinStar World Casino and Resort?
I am the general manager, overseeing the strategic direction and growth of WinStar World Casino and Resort. I have the opportunity to lead operations and clear all obstacles for our management team to successfully serve our employees and guests.
How did you get into this position? Has this been something you’ve always wanted to do?
I fell into gaming completely by chance – my background is in mechanical engineering. Several years ago, I was on my way to Australia when I happened upon a job in gaming on a cruise ship, I went from running one casino on a ship to operating several casinos across the entire fleet. After that, I realized I had found my niche. I would say that my true passion is data-driven marketing and electronic gaming operations.
What does a typical day in the life of a general manager look like?
My day begins at 5:00 a.m. and ends at 10:00 p.m. I often find myself walking the floor to greet guests and assist our employees in anything they need. I’m always looking for opportunities to serve our guests through the enhancement of our patron experience and our employees through professional growth opportunities.
You’re a busy man! What’s your favorite part about WinStar?
I love the fact that even though we’re a very large property, the employees are engaged and have welcomed me with open arms. We do a tremendous job as a team to come together and bring a great experience to our patrons.
We have some great musical and entertainment acts coming to the Global Event Center. Anyone you’re excited to see?
I’m a big fan of classic rock. Bob Dylan is coming to town on Oct. 13 and Eddie Izzard will be here in December. We always have a big entertainment lineup for New Year’s Eve, so keep an eye out on our entertainment calendar for some big announcements as we round out the lineup.
Finally, tell us a few fun facts about yourself!
Well, I’m originally from Rhodesia, which is now known as Zimbabwe. I’ve traveled the world, having lived on three continents: North America, Europe and Africa.
