You’ve already met WinStar Golf Academy Instructors Bill Knodle and Jon Stephenson. This week, we are happy to introduce you to our talented lead golf instructor Gary Nutt.
In the past, Nutt held the title of President of the South Central PGA. He has also worked as an instructor at golf courses across North America, from California, to Minnesota and Mexico.
How long have you worked in the golf industry? How long have you worked at WinStar?
I’ve been working in the golf industry since 1972, so this year starts my 44th year in the industry. I’ve been an instructor at WinStar Golf Academy for 19 months.

What are your top three recommendations for things to do at WinStar Golf Academy?
The top things every golfer should do here at WinStar Golf Academy are lessons, GEARS & TrackMan analysis and club fitting. I know you asked for top 3, but I had to include all 4.” Don’t forget to get fitted for your drivers, irons, wedges and putters!
What is your favorite thing about WinStar Golf Club?
I love WinStar Golf Club because it’s a great place to work with experienced co-workers. The staff here really knows their stuff.
What is your specialty?
Short game and putting are my real specialties, but I also love to teach the full swing (especially the driver).
In your opinion, what do most golfers do incorrectly?
One of the biggest mistakes I see is many players don’t shift their weight, which produces an over-the-top move on their downswing.
Who’s your favorite pro?
Probably Butch Harmon because of his great knowledge of the golf swing and his success in teaching all levels of players from tour players to beginners.
Who are your top three picks to win the Masters?
Bubba Watson, Adam Scott and Rory McIlroy.
