Gritty mountain sound, down-to-earth delivery.
Tyler’s new album Country Squire comes out on August 2. To pre-order the album, listen to the newest single and watch the video, visit his website.
On his outstanding debut album, “Purgatory,” Tyler Childers tells of his love for a certain place, like most great southern storytellers/singer-songwriters. That place is his childhood home, Lawrence County, Kentucky. But for one night, his home will be the WinStar World Casino and Resort Global Event Center stage, on October 5 at 8:00 PM. This show is for guests 18 and up.
There’s something about Lawrence, its people and legends that make the 10 songs on his debut album sound modern, but also as old as the Appalachians. The album, co-produced by Grammy Award winners Sturgill Simpson and David Ferguson, is semiautobiographical, of Childers’ growth from a rebel youth to a happily married man. “Purgatory” is a full sin and temptation. Demons and angels. Played out on the backroads of eastern Kentucky.
For years, Childers had been searching for a certain sound for his debut but found it hard to pin down. Fortunately, a friend introduced him to Simpson, a fellow Kentuckian. Childers recalled him saying, “There’s this sound. I know what you’re trying to get at, the mountain sound.”
“I wanted it to have that gritty mountain sound,” Childers said. “But at the same time, I wanted a modern version for a younger generation, the people I grew up with, something I’d want to listen to.” And thankfully, he landed in “Purgatory.” Don’t miss a rising country/bluegrass/folk/mountain star, at WinStar’s Global Event Center Saturday, October 5.
