Q&A with Head Golf Professional Scott Bishop

Q&A with Head Golf Professional Scott Bishop

If you’ve visited WinStar Golf, maybe you’ve come across our Head Golf Professional, Scott Bishop. Scott has been in the golf industry since 1983.

Scott knows his stuff, so we sat down with him to ask him a few questions about his experiences in the golf industry and at WinStar Golf Academy.

What is your role at WinStar Golf Academy?

I manage the clubhouse, golf course and golf staff. I help with instruction when needed and I participate in our Play With the Pro Fridays.

What makes WinStar Golf Academy unique?

Our customer service, innovative technology and experienced instructors are all things that set WinStar Golf Academy apart from every other golf course.

What are your top 3 recommendations for things to do at WinStar Golf Academy?

Guests should definitely take advantage of the custom club fitting, GEARS and TrackMan.

P.S. If you’ve never heard of GEARS or TrackMan, these high-tech systems go deep in your golf game to track stats like club speed, ball speed, body movement and more! This kind of data can help you bring your game to the next level.

What is your favorite thing about WinStar Golf Club?

I love having the freedom to provide a high level of customer service.

Do you work with golfers of all skill levels?

Yes, I work with everyone from beginners to pros.

Do you specialize in any particular area of the game?

I can teach any facet of the game, but the short game is my favorite part of golf. Teaching someone how to score better is very rewarding!

What do most golfers do incorrectly?

Many golfers try to hit the golf ball too hard. It’s called a “swing” for a reason!

What is one tip you would offer?

Keep your body relaxed so you can swing fluidly.

Who’s your favorite pro and why?

I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to meet Arnold Palmer a few times and I even caddied for Lee Trevino, who was paired with Mr. Palmer. He’s a wonderful man who’d give you the shirt off his back. He was always a risk-taker on the golf course, which is exciting to me.

Thanks, Scott!
