Let’s Play: Progressive E-Games

Have you ever walked onto the casino floor at WinStar and felt overwhelmed by all the exciting options? If you answered with an enthusiastic, “Yes!” you are not alone. With more than 7,400 e-games at WinStar, plus all the table games and off-track betting, the options are endless. Consider this blog your step-by-step guide on how to play progressive e-games, and the next time you visit you’ll feel a little more confident choosing a game to play!

Progressive e-games are distinctly different from regular, or fixed jackpot, e-games for a couple of reasons. The primary difference is in the name, progressive. Progressive games have a rolling jackpot, which means that game is tied to other games, either in the casino or in casinos around the country. Each time someone plays a progressive game, a percentage of their bet gets added to the jackpot. More machines plus more money in bets equals a greater number of dollars in the jackpot!

There are two kinds of progressives: wide area progressives (WAP) and in-house progressives. Wide area progressive e-games are connected to machines at many other casinos. Someone in Las Vegas could hit the progressive jackpot on a Wheel of Fortune progressive e-game, and that would reset the amount for the one located here and vice versa. Pretty cool, right? In-house progressives are games that are linked only to others inside the casino. Similarly, when someone hits the jackpot it resets the other associated progressives.

How do I play?

  1. On the gaming floor, look for machines with banners across the top with the jackpot prominently displayed to identify the progressives. WAPs are the machines that have jackpots over $1,000,000. If you’re unsure, you can always ask one of our helpful floor attendants or a Players Club employee to help you find a progressive machine.
  2. When you sit down, the first thing you should look for is the bet amount. This will let you know the minimum and max bets.
  3. Pay attention to how you are betting on progressives to win. You’ll want to place the max bet each time to ensure you get the max payout if you win. Say you get the triple bar payout and were only betting 2 coins instead of the max bet. In that case, you wouldn’t win the max payout because you were not playing that level.
  4. Keep playing until you win!

What happens when I win?

When a large progressive win is “hit” all play ceases at that moment. Casino personnel rope off the machine and call the vendor. The vendor comes in and breaks down the machine to verify that it is a legitimate win.

If the progressive is in-house, the standard is $20,000 paid in cash and the rest is paid by check in 7 to 10 days. Wide area progressives are paid by the vendor, and each one may pay out differently.

On your next visit to WinStar, we hope you’ll try something new and play a progressive e-game. And when you win, share your photos and excitement with us on FacebookTwitter or Instagram (@WinStar_World)!
