It’s your thing!
Formed in the early ’50s, the Isley Brothers have taken a journey on one of the longest, most influential and diverse careers in pop music. Don’t miss this epic band at the WinStar World Casino and Resort Global Event Center on October 11 at 8:00 PM.
The group’s history spans not only generations but also massive cultural shifts, from gritty R&B to Motown soul to blistering funk. In 1959, the brothers inserted a new line in the song “Lonely Teardrops” – “You know you make me want to shout” – which inspired frenzied reactions. Shortly after, an RCA executive insisted their first single be written around that catch phrase. While the call-and-response classic “Shout” failed to reach the pop Top 40 initially, it became a classic.
The period of 1959 to 1962 was a creatively-rewarding one for the Isleys, yielding such rock and soul staples as “Respectable,” “Nobody But Me,” “Twist and Shout” and the soul classic “This Old Heart of Mine,” written and produced by the Motown prodigies Holland-Dozier-Holland.
In 1969 the group recorded the biggest hit of their career, “It’s Your Thing,” which won a Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance. This marked the start of a period the band dominated, placing a staggering 50 singles on the R&B chart between 1969 and 1988. Throughout the seventies, the Isley Brothers’ rock-disco fusion was driven by a propulsive beat, culminating in their massive hit single, “Who’s That Lady.”
Don’t miss these modern musical giants at the WinStar Global Event Center Friday, October 11.
