Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.!
More than 25 million albums sold. A 21-time nominated, multiple GRAMMY award winner. Forty Billboard singles, with 12 gold albums, nine platinum and 14 albums in the top 10. Not that we’re counting. But it all adds up to one sensational evening with Dwight Yoakam on the Global Event Center stage, September 20.
Born in Kentucky and raised in Ohio, Dwight learned to play a guitar at six years old while listening to his mother’s record collection of Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and Buck Owens. Flash forward a few years and his stripped-down, riled-up approach to honky-tonk and Bakersfield music single-handedly reinvented and reinvigorated country in the late ‘80s and pioneered the way for generations of followers.
This recipient of the Americana Music Association’s most prestigious award, Artist of the Year, hasn’t slowed down. While continuing to write and record, he’s the host of a SiriusXM channel—Dwight Yoakam and The Bakersfield Beat “Where Country Went Mod”—and recently Yoakam released a bluegrass album (Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars …) featuring a band of bluegrass luminaries and boasting a collection of favorites, even a cover of Prince’s “Purple Rain.”
In addition to his musical career, Yoakam has appeared in more than 40 feature films, including Sling Blade and Panic Room, standing toe-to-toe with some of the world’s top actors, from Tommy Lee Jones and Jared Leto to Forest Whitaker and Matthew McConaughey.
Now Dwight is your honky-tonk host for an unforgettable evening of history-making hits and your favorite songs at the Global Event Center, September 20.
