We never shy away from talking about our fantastic staff whenever we get the chance. WinStar World Casino and Resort employs some truly amazing people, and Lonnie Leonard is one of those remarkable employees! Lonnie works behind the scenes as the employee events manager and she ensures that morale is high and that each and every employee is celebrated.
A lot happens behind the scenes to make WinStar a family, and Lonnie plays an important role in making that happen. We asked her a few questions about her experiences at WinStar over the last 13 years!
How did you get into doing what you do? Was it something you always wanted to do or was it something that found you?
Actually, the job found me. The employee events manager position was created, and after the recommendations and encouragement of several management employees, I applied and got the position.
What does your day to day at WinStar World Casino and Resort look like?
It really varies every day. Some events are all day, such as our annual family picnic. My assistant, Christy Hammer and I are a two-woman department, but we have help from our maintenance department at events. Planning all of our employee events takes time as we purchase door prizes, make sure everything is set up, order food, line up vendors and more. Each event is different!
I also organize our employee appreciation each month including birthday cakes for those with a birthday that month. We’ve also had cookouts, pizza parties, ice cream, seasonal fruit and energy drinks available for employees.
We are very fortunate to have Wayne McCormick as our general manager. Wayne is very appreciative of all the employees and the hard work we do to make WinStar the best it can be and #1 in customer service.
We will happily join in on every pizza party, ice cream party or picnic that Lonnie plans!
What gets you motivated to go to work each day?
Knowing that I get to make our employees happy and boost morale with each event we do is my biggest motivation. I love that our employees look forward to events!
What is your favorite WinStar memory so far?
There are so many, but if I have to pick one it is the way our employees get together and help each other when there is a tragedy. Whether there is a house fire or a death in the family, WinStar employees are a family and are always there to help each other.
You may not see her on your visit to WinStar, but Lonnie plays an integral role in creating a memorable WinStar experience for each employee and guest! We are so thankful for her and the work that she does. We would love to hear who you would like to see featured on our blog.
